Overview & Description
Early identification and informed instructional strategies can change a student’s trajectory—especially for students with dyslexia. In this session, Charachel Gordon, dyslexia coordinator at Houston ISD, shares how the country’s sixth largest district uses MAP® Reading Fluency™ to screen quickly, monitor progress, and personalize instruction.
You’ll see how benchmark and progress‑monitoring data inform instruction, what implementation looks like across schools, and how to build systems that support teachers—all while improving student reading fluency and comprehension.
All registrants will receive a link to the on-demand recording of the session.
Who should attend?
District and school administrators; assistant superintendents of curriculum & instruction; directors of curriculum & instruction; assessment coordinators; special education directors; instructional coaches; school principals; literacy coordinators.
Learning outcomes:
- Understand why dyslexia support matters and which phonological awareness and fluency metrics to watch
- See Houston ISD’s approach to screening, progress monitoring, and turning data into instruction
- Learn how to implement a scalable, teacher‑friendly solution in your district
You’ll also hear briefly from NWEA® on how you can personalize instruction with Coach, which delivers precisely targeted AI‑driven intervention that’s grounded in the science of reading.
We’re hosting this during Dyslexia Awareness Month, not just to raise awareness but to share how we can all provide the right support to help students with dyslexia—the most common learning disability.
